Manju Festival/Rin-jinja Shrine
11 a.m. on April 19
Manju is a traditional Japanese confectionery. These small steamed buns consist of a wheat flour dough casing filled with adzuki bean paste or other fillings. In honor of Lin Jingyin, who is said to have introduced manju to Nara from China, an annual festival is held to pray for the prosperity of the confectionery industry. During the festival, confectioners from across Japan offer their prize sweets to the gods. After the ceremony, tea and manju are distributed for everyone to enjoy.
