The Nehan-e is a traditional Buddhist ceremony held annually at Futaiji Temple on February 15 to commemorate the passing of the Buddha, known as the Buddha’s Parinirvana. The ritual takes place in the main hall and features sutra chanting and offerings of incense and flowers. A large illustrated scroll or painting, known as the Nehan-zu (Nirvana Image), is often displayed. It depicts the reclining Buddha surrounded by mourning disciples, animals, and celestial beings. The Nehan-e at Futaiji is a significant observance rooted in Buddhist tradition, offering a serene and reflective experience.
